To measure route optimization projects' contribution to the preservation of the environment, Opti-Time created an online CO2 emissions calculator for its website.

Companies enter their data (number and type of vehicles, fuel and price per litre, average fuel consumption, and kilometres covered per day) and see in real time the CO2 emissions they would avoid and the money they could save (carbon tax, fuel) by using mobile resource management solutions.

"The Grenelle Environment Round Table and the Charter for the Voluntary Reduction of CO2 emissions recommends rotating vehicle fleets and changing driving methods, as well as optimizing routes to shorten travel time and reduce CO2 waste. We came up with the idea of a calculator based on this recommendation", explains Bertrand Eichinger, Opti-Time's Marketing Director.

Opti-Time wanted to provide businesses with a tool to calculate the economic and environmental impact of the projects they manage with Opti-Time On Demand and TourSolver software programs.

For example: a company has ten, 1.5-tonne utility vehicles that run on diesel. Each one travels 100 kilometres per day. The price of fuel per litre is currently 1.20 Euros.

Over the year (based on 220 working days per year), CO2 emissions will be reduced by 7.4 tonnes.
The money saved at the fuel station is more than 3,600 Euros; i.e. 600 Euros more than the price of a TourSolver license for ten vehicles.

"The advantage of the calculator is that it makes emissions reduction meaningful. These calculations appeal to businesses that are highly aware of the 'sustainable development' aspect of managing their mobile resources", concludes Bertrand Eichinger.
